From architecture to textile, furniture to appliances, this guy was willing to engage with just about anything that needed more style. Perhaps it was the nature of his time, when creative talents were free to run amok in the world, but I suspect it was more than he was the kind of guy who had trouble keeping his hands inside the ride at all times. Why be just an architect, just a painter, just a clock designer? Why not do all the things? As a lifelong fan of trying to do all the things, I realize that tendency comes at a cost, but one that us all-the-things types frequently are willing to pay.
